M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru

The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is one of the finest cricket stadiums in India. Previously known as the Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium this cricket ground is situated in the heart of Bengaluru. The stadium which is named after Sri M.Chinnaswamy, the former president of the BCCI is serving as an international cricket venue for about 40 years now. Offering a seating capacity of nearly 50,000 this cricket stadium in Bengaluru is said to be the most important sports venue in the garden city. The stadium is beautiful and bright as it is painted in colors of the Karnataka flag and also the colors of the Royal Challengers.

The M Chinnaswamy Stadium apart from hosting numerous cricket Test matches, One Day Internationals (ODI) and other important matches, also hosts other important national and international events. The stadium also serves as the training ground of the Indian Premier League franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Karnataka state cricket team.

The first ever cricket match played on this ground was in 1972 between India and West Indies. It was just two years after the construction of the stadium that is served as host to a one day international match. Even the first test series played in this stadium was between India and West Indies during the same season.

It was in the 1996 Wills World Cup that floodlights were first installed at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The stadium has fond memories attached to it for the quarter final match played between India and arch rivals Pakistan.

This cricket ground is also home to the National Cricket Academy. Most of the state’s cricketers have some time or the other practiced on this ground. There are also numerous budding cricket players that have their training sessions at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Howver it is reported that the Karnataka State Cricket Association now plans to expand the number of seats to 70,000 mostly because of the IPL matches that will take place in the garden city.
